Item description
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt
Scamander (a.k.a. J. K. Rowling) (2001 Paperback)
Author:
Newt Scamander (a.k.a. J. K. Rowling)
Illustrator:
J. K. Rowling
Publisher: Arthue A. Levine Books, New
York, NY U.S.A. 2001
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt
Scamander's classic compendium of magical creatures, has delighted
generations of wizarding readers. This "copy" was the
personal property of Harry Potter with his notes throughout. Now, in
this updated edition with a new foreword by Newt himself and the
unveiling of six beasts little known outside the American wizarding
community, Muggles too have the chance to discover where the
Thunderbird lives, what the Puffskein eats, and why shiny objects
should always be kept away from the Niffler.
Written for grades 4-8. A slim paperback was made to
look like actual Hogwarts tomes, complete with creased/scratched
covers and plenty of marginalia scribbled by Harry and other
students. Fabulous Beasts, a facsimile of Harry Potter's very own
textbook, contains descriptions of 75 magical beasts, written in a
wonderfully dry yet droll style by a renowned magizoologist. Harry
Potter fans who pride themselves on knowing every minute bit of
Hogwarts trivia will devour this book. From Professor Dumbledore's
introductions to the price listed on the back cover (14 Sickles 3
Knuts), readers will find a wealth of detailed magical lore and
laugh-out-loud humor. Not as gripping as the actual series, of
course, but fans who were waiting for the fifth installment were
entertained by this volume in the meantime.
New paperback book always privately owned. No creases,
tightly bound with no extraneous markings. Gift Quality Book.

Notes on
Condition/Edition ratings:
Fine – means like new, but any
book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new”.
Booksellers needed some word to describe this...
Like New – A new book, no
marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks) except not
obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the
publisher.
Very Good – How you or I might
take care of a book, closer to “as new” than standard. Might show
ownership.
Good – How someone else might
take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” The most
likely condition
for books of this age
title, shows the book has been read or previously owned.
Acceptable – How a child,
student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to
make sure
someone doesn't steal it by
plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or
a book that has been damaged.)
Poor – Combination of
“acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as
well. Might have
missing pages (you should ask).
Near – Means “almost” in
an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on
the high end.
1st
Thus
– Unique somehow, maybe 1st
paperback,
new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st
edition.
A collector
might desire this copy.
