This is a stunning brooch or pin representing two coiled snakes wrapped around an Amethyst color bezel set cabochon stone. I don’t know for sure if it is a real Amethyst or purple glass. It is a handcrafted piece of wearable art.  It is nicely textured with scales and it quite dimensional. This piece is marked on the back with a 925 in the center for Sterling Silver. It weighs .40 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to approximately 11.33 grams and measures 2 inches by 1 ½  inches. Because this brooch is handmade, you can see a mark around the bezel where it was formed for the stone to be set. This is not unusual in handcrafted jewelry and you only see it with magnification. 

This finely crafted brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The C-clasp where the pin fits in appears to be slightly bent and may have at one time had a roll over section in the center. It does work fine, but clicks into place rather than sliding ride in. I adjusted it slightly after the pictures were taken. The pin back also has a little bend in it. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe. I have pointed out the issues above with arrows in the photographs.

This is an unusual and beautiful brooch and is sure to be a conversation piece. It would be stunning with a little black dress for a special occasion, or with your favorite pair of jeans. It will be a fine addition to your collection of figural jewelry and a great gift for anyone who likes Snakes or was born in the Year of the Snake. The snake is one of the 12-year cycles of animals which appear in the Chinese Zodiac.
