Money orders as payment, yes or no?

I am thinking of accepting money orders as a payment for items in my Booth. What do you think? I accept PayPal now, but wonder if I should give buyers another option. If I do accept money orders, how do I let people know that I do, since there is no money orders check box to click onto?

I accept USPS money orders only…as they can be immediately cashed at the Post Office…no chance of scamming….Do not send items until MO is received, and cashed (or if you deposit, until it clears)…

There is a setting under Payment and Purchases that when selected will offer the MO option at checkout…it used to be anyway..it seems one of the updates removed the MO option in the payment options

If you look at one of my items, you will see the payment options…

I used to have more MO in the beginning, but as I moved from vintage items (in my other booth) to the more new, items in this booth, the buyers tend to used MO less often, though I still get a couple a year

The option to pay with money order IS still there on your items (I checked it out with one of your items… unfortunately, I didn’t need any Star Wars figures, so I backed out. LOL). But, you’re right. There is no option to add MO under Payment & Purchases.

yes, I realized that I add the comment about not seeing ‘it’ meaning the payment option in Payment and Purchases…at the wrong place..I have now corrected it

I only accept USPS POSTAL Money Orders. I would then go and cash it at the PO so I would know immediately if it was phony. The PO (I would think) would know how to spot a bad Money Order of their own origin.

I also accept CASH and of course Paypal.

I have never had anyone here at Bonanza send me a money order but had two buyers send cash. Otherwise, everything else was Paypal.

As long as you are using PayPal (which you said you were doing), adding USPS money orders is a great option for buyers to have. And, as ccmom indicated, there is NO risk of you being scammed if you cash the USPS money orders at the Post Office. They do have a way to verify the authenticity. So, once you cash it, the money is yours and then you can ship the items.

If anybody is at risk in the transaction, it is the buyer… certainly not the seller. That is why Bonanza won’t allow you to accept money orders until you have proven yourself with sufficient feedback/transactions on your account (imported eBay feedback will count in your behalf).

[URL removed] Even though the help link directly above mentions accepting money orders, I can no longer find a place to select payment options that indicate acceptance of cash or money orders… even though I have those options on MY listings. So, the question makes me wonder if Bonanza grandfathered that in for sellers who already had it in place, but discontinued it for new sellers (even though a help page still mentions it).

I would not accept money orders personally because it opens you up to fraudulent activity with no protection .I would stick with paypal or amazon check out , that is my personal opinion .

If the seller accepts USPS m/o only, there is no chance for fraud. Cash it at the PO before shipping, and you’re good to go. The buyer is really the one with no protection, and the seller isn’t stuck with PP’s unfriendly policies.

The only problem with money orders is once the customer see’s the extra they have to pay for it at the post office, they may not want to spend the extra to purchase the money order and then they will not come back to purchase your item. I stick with paypal, never had a problem with them and the payment is received immediately.

Regarding MO, we do what ccmom stated above. Why not? It’s simple and useful for some people who don’t care for online payments “risks”. Get a couple sales a year and not as likely to get the ’not as described" Paypal scammers. You just have to wait a little longer to process the sale. We do have Paypal and Amazon Payments. Get about 60/40 sales through each.
